City of the Spider Queen
Character Creation Guide
Why You Are Here?
Llolth has fallen silent, her priestesses prey every midnight but receive no answer. Her faithful remain hopeful but without any of their power they are virtually defenceless, this has sparked a civil war led by worshippers of Kiaransalee who have taken the city of Maerimydra, These drow are using the out-post Szith Morcane to launch attacks on the surface lands and have attacked Daggerdale with some force, they are coming out of the Doriden Crypts so this is where the last team started. The Llolth worshipping drow had not attacked the surface world in 200 years, so there must be a reason for this new drow to start their attacks?
Lord Morn will not take any risks with these drow, he wants them stopped at all costs. Getting the party to go and look into the attacks will buy him time to gather a force to defend his homeland and more importantly, his people. He has told the people to prepare to move and move quickly, he hopes it will not come to that but better safe than sorry.
The party headed into the crypts and dealt with a number of threats which included a roper, two demons and some undead that were not related to the drow (the undead that is). The first of the drow were encountered when a hole in the floor led to a vast chasm, On the near side wall was the outpost Szith Morcane, there is a huge spider web that must be climbed down and this leads to a series of caverns where various buildings house different sections of the outpost. It is here the hero's had been working, they have cleared out some of these caverns and still have more to do.
Why You Are Here
After the attacks on his town Lord Morn asked for capable adventurers to step forwards, when the party offered their services he asked them to look into where the drow were coming from. Also he wanted to know what their (the drow) long term plans were. The party were surprised to find a fairly organised enemy occupying the old outpost of Szith Morcane, there is a fair mix of arcane and divine magic's with some fighting ability and many undead servants to-boot. This game will have you focus on learning what you can about the plans of the drow and how close they are to realising this, your orders are to do what you can to disrupt those plans. There was a sum of money offered to the PC's as they were taking high risks, the sum agreed was 5k each with the same in services from the temple of Tyr. I think most refused the loot but it will be a personal decision on what to do with it,
In this section you will find rule changes and exemptions, these are with no exception.
1 – Be excellent to each other, this means not doing things that hurts other players.
2 - Magic /Psionic Transparency is NOT in effect
3 – All loot will be shared equally, magical items will go to the characters best suited to the item.
The following are the rules for creating a character for the City of the Spider Queen,
1 – 32pt build
2 – No Leadership of any kind
3 – No to Tome of Magic/Battle and no Magic Incarnum
4 – No “Monster Races”
5 – Alignment (so long as you “play” nicely I do not care)*
6 - +1 LA “Free” **
7 – LA Buy off is in effect
8 – Skill points/hp are retro (if your Con score rises @ lvl 4 from odd to even new hp gained count from level 1)
9 – Rules will be debated collectively
10 – You die at – your Con score not -10
11 – Hp can be openly rolled or you can take average rounded up (4 for a d65 for a d8, etc)
12 – No d4 hp, if you choose to play a class that uses a d4 for hp use a d6 instead (wizards, sorcerers etc)
When making your character please take in mind what everyone else is playing, whilst I do not wish to dictate that you play a certain class I do however think you need to make sure all bases are covered (rogue, healer, melee etc).
* - Whilst alignment traditionally is “Good” for the PC's and “Evil” for the baddies I do not mind what alignment you play, you do however need to take into account that there is a paladin in the party. You also have to be able to interact with the party and have reason to support them, any backstabbing or adverse behaviour will have the epic sorceress or paladin relieve you of your hit points.
** - LA buy off is done so that a player can gain xp at the same rate as LA +0 characters, once done you will “catch up” to the others. Eg, you create an Asimar paladin @ level 1. At level 3 you can buy off the +1 LA, by the time you reach level 9 you will just about be on the same xp as the LA +0 characters, as this game is level 11 you can assume you have paid off your LA and are on par with the other players.
We are using PHB and FR gods only, please do not ask for any other as the answer will be NO.

This game will have the party pitted against the largely unknown Kiaransalee, she is a twisted being of utter evil. Her churches are usually small clusters of devoted within larger communities, her nemesis is Llolth but she is vengeful to most other beings.
Kiaransalee (kee-uh-ran-sa-lee) is the drow deity of both
vengeance and the undead. She is cruel, twisted, and consumed
by thoughts of vengeance against Lolth and every
other deity and mortal being who has wronged her.
Kiaransalee descended into madness long ago, but she retains
her twisted cunning and prefers to solve problems herself
rather than trust someone else to execute her plans.
What you know
It has been over 200 years since the drow of Llolth have been seen on the surface world in numbers, this new wave of attacks are not in line with normal drow activity.
Kiaransalee uses many undead in her armies, finding a lich would not be a surprise.
There will almost certainly be alliances with other races, ogres, giants and of course orcs should be expected.
If the drow of Kiaransalee have taken Szith Morcane then it is likely that they could have taken other settlements. Possibilities are Ooltul, Sshindylryn and Maerimydra.
Maerimydra is a strong possibility as Ooltul is a beholder city but it is not to be discounted, Sshindylryn is also a possibility as this is a big trading city and is not a military strong hold.
